Movies of 2009

April 13, 2009

There aren’t too many this year that have me all hot and bothered, but a few stand out in particular.

Moon Trailer

Moon is about this guy who has to run this mining operation on the moon all by himself for three years. Everything’s running smoothly until just a few weeks before his reprieve…..It looks to be quite psychologically thrilling indeed. Sam Rockwell plays the lead, while Kevin Spacey provides his voice as the sidekick computer.

Where the Wild Things Are

Spike Jonze’s adaptation of a classic children’s book looks to impress and awe. The trailer put me in tears; the music selection might have to do with that (Arcade Fire–“Wake Up”). October can’t get here soon enough.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Yet another adaptation of a children’s book, one that I remember reading over and over. The illustrations were beautiful and the story a dream come true for a chubby boy such as myself. Not sure I like the style Sony has got going so far with this movie. I think it would have been a more faithful approach to use live action and actors to portray this fantastical story. The animation is smooth as silk tho.

There are a few other movies worth mentioning. Star Trek and Pixar’s Up release in May, Harry Potter 6 comes out in July. That’s all I can think of at the moment, unfortunately.
