So I have been working at a Thai restaurant for the past 5 months or so, and figured I’d blog about it.
Here is a link to the website: http://www.eatthaihouse.com
Favorite dishes include Fried Calamari, Moo Shu Pork, Firecracker Chicken, and Panang Curry. So good.

I entered the Hugo Awards Logo contest. It baffles me that they don’t have an official logo yet, which is what spawned this contest. My entry was…a little rushed (I had forgotten about it until the day before it was due) and they were kind enough to give me some feedback on it. Entries were judged by a celebrity panel, Irene Gallo (Art Director at Tor Books and Tor.com), Neil Gaiman (3 time Hugo Award winning writer), Chip Kidd (Graphic Designer/Writer/Editor), and Geri Sullivan (Fan & Graphic Design pro).
Here’s my entry:
Here’s what they had to say: “Many thanks for entering the Hugo Award Logo Design Contest. Our judges have selected a winner and I regret to inform you that your entry was not selected. The winning logo design will be announced at this year’s Hugo Awards ceremony on the evening of August 9, 2009, in Montreal. We expect to display the new logo on the Hugo Awards web site shortly thereafter.
There has been some confusion regarding rights to the unsuccessful designs. “Hugo Award” and the specific design of the Hugo rocket are service marks of the World Science Fiction Society. Because we asked for logos that contained both of these elements the logos as they stand are not much use to anyone except us. However, if you remove the words “Hugo Award” and remove, or change the shape of, the rocket then you are left with your own artwork over which we have no claim.
We thank you for entering the contest. We received 390 entries from 24 countries, and the judges expressed their appreciation for all of the work everyone put in on their designs.

So I guess maybe they didn’t give me direct feedback. There really isn’t much that’s “my artwork” on the logo, but I think I know what they are getting at. Can’t wait to see what they chose for their new logo!

Welcome to the first ever weekly “Friday Special,” where I post an image of a sign or logo I find is special, in all its horrible design glory. And so without further ado, the first “Friday Special,” served hot and delishus for your viewing pleasure.
Isn’t she a beaut? The lovely teal and bubblegum pink make for an appetizing vista on the fast food boulevard, don’t you think? I have yet to sample in their pancake and pheasant(?) delights, but I will force myself to experience the inside at least once before I move away from this town…maybe. Oh and kudos for the clever use of the number four!
